ILLUSTRATION
As a person who loves to draw, below is a collection of the artwork I have produced and published alongside my written work.
California Journalism Preservation Act
Created on Procreate, this illustration functions as a feature image for my article on the California Journalism Preservation Act. I was inspired by the California flag and the provisions of the bill, which would make certain tech companies compensate smaller news outlets.
California bans single-use plastics in hotels
Created on Procreate, this illustration functions as a feature image for my article on the California bill that banned single-use plastic bottles in hotels in 2023. The image depicts a refillable shampoo dispenser overshadowing the now illegal single-use shampoo bottle.
Opioid crisis
Created on Procreate, this illustration functions as a feature image for my article on Santa Clara County's plan to combat opioid use. The illustration depicts a teenager suffocated by fentanyl pills in a giant pill bottle. This scene symbolizes the addiction and entrapment caused by drug use, and how that is especially prevalent among youth.
Prescribed burns
Created on Procreate, this illustration functions as a feature image for my article on the impacts of climate change on prescribed burns. The illustration depicts a person in gear, lighting a prescribed fire to get rid of potentially dangerous fuel in the area. The tool and fire lines are used to show how the flames are controlled, not free.
International involvement in the Israel-Hamas War
Created on Procreate, this illustration functions as a feature image for my article on the impacts of international involvement in the Israel-Hamas War and historically. The chessboard pictured represents the world, as "players" United States and Iran place chess pieces supporting Israel and Palestine.
Local sustainability efforts
Created on Procreate, this illustration functions as a feature image for my article on grassroots local groups focused on sustainability. The illustration expresses the diversity of issues that the world faces with regard to the environment, but also the diversity of people who are working hard to combat climate change.
Students press for journalistic freedom
Created on Procreate, this illustration functions as a feature image for my article on student press freedom. The flag represents the ideals of the country and the First Amendment, contradicting the speech limitations of the student journalist depicted. The article reflected multiple efforts by schools to censor student publications and how the journalists addressed them.
