DESIGNS
Below is a collection of infographics and designs that I have created during my time in high school and as a Highlander editor. I look forward to the many designs I will add on in later years!

Spread designs

01: Highlander Features spread Issue II, 2023
Created on InDesign, this two-page spread was inspired by the story topic: games that invigorate the mind. The chess pieces represent the game as a mentally stimulating activity that aids those with mental diseases. The design is also focused on incorporating the background photo with the writing as much as possible for a sense of cohesion and connection.

02: Highlander Community spreads Issue IV, 2024
Created on InDesign, this three-page section focuses on the community. For the first spread, I was inspired to use blue and white, our high school colors, along with slightly transparent "steps" connecting the three boxes about seniors. I did this to properly express their relationship to Carlmont and the purpose of the spread.

For the single-page spread, I was inspired by what a browser search for cleaning products might look like, and individually created each icon using the line and pen tool on Indesign. I also wanted to follow the theme of being eco-friendly and related to spring, so I mainly used the colors pink and green. The flowers and branches were also drawn by me using the pencil tool on Indesign. Overall, this spread clearly expresses a spring vibe and has added creativity due to its appearance as a web browser.

03: Highlander Features spreads Issue VI, 2024
Created on InDesign, this six-page section focuses on feature stories. For the first Chinatown spread, I was inspired by the beauty of the city, and asked my photographer to take colorful night photos to create an impactful first spread.

For the following article, I wanted to make the photos flow from the previous pages and also stay true to the colors of Chinatown: red and green. Just as it welcomes visitors to the cultural location in real life, the large gate functions as a door to "welcome" readers into the story and design.

Although the final spread was not published, the design holds much meaning. The story mentions how Vietnamese people are the backbone of the nail industry, and here the nail artist is placed so that she is carrying the article on her back. I created a slant design to draw attention and make a connection to the headline: "Below the polish."
Advertisement design

01: Business Advertisement
Created on InDesign and Canva, this is a magazine advertisement for my sustainable jewelry business, Everyday Green Jewelry. I used green and a beige color to emphasize the sustainable aspect of my business and kept it simple, clear, and easy to follow.

02: Scot Scoop Advertisement
Created on Indesign, I was tasked with creating an advertisement for the magazine celebrating Scot Scoop for being the top Pacemaker-winning school news site in the country. Since it was a significant message, I took our school colors and created a very clear and loud design in order to emphasize our achievement and make it so that even the passing eye can understand the message.
Infographics
01
01: History of Starbucks Workers United
Created on Canva, this is a detailed infographic of the initial 7 Starbucks stores that filed to unionize and form Starbucks Workers United. This was designed for my feature article on the increased influence of unions in America which explored the similarities and differences as well as the struggles and successes of different groups such as the United Automobile Workers, Starbucks Workers United, and Sequoia District Teacher's Association.
02: How to play golf!
Created on Canva, this is a detailed infographic of a few basic rules of golf, basic etiquette, basic terms, as well as an introduction to common clubs. It is cheery and beginner-friendly, and published alongside my feature article on women in golf. Most of the illustration was drawn by me. It is intended to be a quick way to understand and appreciate the sport more, especially for those without prior knowledge.
